Front Desk Patient Services - Receptionist

Department: Surgery Center

Essential Job Functions:  Welcomes patients and visitors in a friendly & professional manner, checking them in and notifying provider of arrival.  The Receptionist is the first impression of the surgery center, a reflection of the practice overall, therefore it is essential to maintain a positive and upbeat attitude.

Overview of Job Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them in a friendly and professional manner, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions.
  • Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
  • Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient co-pays.
  • Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory. level; anticipating needed supplies; notifying supervisor of needed supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; notifying supervisor of any equipment malfunctions and/or repairs.
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Ensures that waiting area is clutter free and orderly.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimal Skill & Qualification Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Multi-tasking
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to use multi-line phone system
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact while multi-tasking
